ABOUT THE AT WORK PROGRAM
The Weight Watchers AT WORK Program, introduced in 1984, is a group participation program that is designed to support the special weight loss needs and concerns of working people. Weight Watchers created the AT WORK Program as a convenience for employees whose busy schedules and time constraints make it difficult to enroll in a weight loss program.
The AT WORK Program operates “on-site”, easily integrating the Weight Watchers program into the busy work day. Meetings are held before work, during lunch, or immediately after work — with no travel involved. The program is scheduled into the workplace in 12 or 14 week series (weeks may vary upon location). All a company needs to do is supply a meeting room.
The AT WORK Program is tailored specifically to meet the needs of busy people in a variety of professional atmospheres including educational, medical, governmental and corporate environments. Each meeting includes a confidential weigh-in, lecture and discussion. A specially trained leader, using proven Weight Watchers techniques, covers topics like coping with coffee breaks, surviving lunch hour, fitting exercise into a busy schedule, maintaining motivation and dealing with the effects of time pressure on eating habits.
The AT WORK Program can stand alone as an on-site weight loss program, or can be the weight control component of an overall wellness program. Many employers have already used the AT WORK Program as the foundation of a total wellness program for their employees.
Today, more than 81% of America’s businesses with 50 or more employees have some form of health promotion programs. Most employers offer wellness programs simply because they think the benefit is worth the cost. For many companies, medical costs can consume half of corporate profits or more. Human Resource directors have reported that worksite health promotion programs increase productivity, increase morale and loyalty, lower health care costs, reduce absenteeism, reduce use of health care benefits, reduce worker’s compensation and disability management costs and reduce injuries.
